Wheels and Sheaves
The cost of wheels can be
reduced by finishing ODs before flame-hardening.
We can work with wheels made of cast iron, ductile
iron or steel.
Sheaves require groove-hardening
only. Flame-hardening is a fast and economical method
to achieve this.
Cams
Flame hardening of cams provides
a superior wear surface on outside diameter cams,
box cams, or barrel cams. This is accomplished by
only selectively hardening the cam paths. This eliminates
the need for costly die tool steels or thru-hardening
of the cams. Our process also reduces the finishing
time of the cams. If improved core properties are
required, starting with a pre-heat treated grade
of steel in the range of 280 to 320 brinell would
be recommended.
Cable
Drums
For either cast or fabricated
cable drums flame-hardening is an ideal application.
Our proven method of flame-hardening drums minimizes
or eliminates distortion by allowing us to selectively
harden only the groove area.
Chicago Flame Hardening has
flame-hardened cable drums in excess of 30 ft. long
and 10 ft. in diameter, weighing up to 100,000 lbs.
Our capacity in this area is one of the largest
in the country.
